WESON MUSEUM held ARTLINK 2025 from Thursday, November 6 to Wednesday, November 19, 2025, on VRChat. The exhibition brought together work by 17 artists from across Japan — including oil paintings and acrylic works digitized for virtual display, alongside digital artworks — presented in an immersive virtual environment.
What this edition reaffirmed for us is that a VR art exhibition is not simply a digital version of a conventional show. It becomes a space where the distance between art and people genuinely shrinks. ARTLINK has long attracted visitors who might not regularly set foot in a gallery — people who stop in front of a work, begin a conversation, and find themselves drawn in. That quality was present again in 2025.
Artist VR Gallery Sessions
During the exhibition period, participating artists held live sessions in the virtual space, welcoming visitors and answering questions directly about their work. One of ARTLINK’s defining qualities is the way viewing a work and talking with its creator — or with other visitors — can happen naturally in the same space.
From Virtual to Reality
ARTLINK’s reach extends beyond the virtual. We continue to see visitors who discover an artist in VR and later attend their physical exhibitions; and for artists who are less familiar with technology, the platform has opened doors to new audiences. The connections formed in virtual space translate into real-world visits and lasting relationships — that continuity is one of ARTLINK’s core values.
Expanding Access to Art
A central goal of ARTLINK is to widen access to art. In Japan, galleries and museums can feel like spaces that require a certain kind of prior familiarity. VR lowers that threshold — it creates an open door for people who might otherwise not enter. ARTLINK 2024 took a hybrid form combining a real venue and a virtual one; ARTLINK 2025 returned to a fully virtual format on VRChat. Each iteration builds on the last, and we will continue creating spaces for encounter and dialogue.
